West Virginia’s men’s basketball team added its second transfer commitment of the day from Illinois on Sunday when Amani Hansberry announced his move to the Mountaineers. He joined teammate Sencire Harris, who committed a couple of hours prior, on the 2024-25 roster.
Hansberry, a 6-8, 240-pound forward, saw limited action with the Illini as a freshman in the 2023-24 season, averaging 2.4 points per game and 2.1 rebounds in 7.5 minutes per game while appearing in 19 contests. He did show a bit of shooting range, making four of 13 from beyond the arc, and had six assists against only two turnovers.
In head coach Darian DeVries’s offense, those ratios are important, as are good passing and ball security. It remains to be see whether Hansberry, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, fits those profiles, but the limited data available does look at least encouraging.
Along with Hansberry and Harris, coach’s son Tucker DeVries has committed as transfers to West Virginia. Harris and Hansberry will both have three years of eligibility remaining.
Harris was selected as the Maryland high school player of the year with a double-double average of 15.3 points and 12 rebounds per game at Mt, St. Joseph High School. He also showed a solid court game with four assists per contest.
